About RawMaps
RawMaps is an independent interactive mapping project focused on Earth and space. The site is built around the idea that maps can be used not only for countries and roads, but also for planetary surfaces, orbital systems, nearby stars, galaxies, and larger cosmic structures. The project uses a Leaflet-based interface and custom data layers to present geographic and astronomical subjects in one consistent environment.
The purpose of RawMaps is to make scale, position, and structure easier to understand visually. On Earth, that means country maps, coastlines, and thematic layers such as maritime zones. In space, that means maps for the Moon, Mars, the Solar System, and progressively larger astronomical contexts. Many layers are experimental, but the goal is always the same: clear exploration of real spatial relationships.
RawMaps is developed as a long-term project and is updated over time as data, design, and map behavior improve. Some features may evolve, some layers may expand, and some presentations may change as the project grows. The site is intended for general exploration, education, visual reference, and curiosity-driven browsing.
What makes RawMaps different
Instead of being a general portal full of unrelated articles, RawMaps keeps the map itself at the center. The site emphasizes direct interaction, visual comparison, custom overlays, measurement, and thematic navigation between Earth and space layers.
